BMW U.S. Sales Increase in January
Earlier this month, BMW Group reported that the company's January sales in the United States grew to 19,016 vehicles — representing a five percent increase over January 2017 sales results. The month's performance can be credited to continued demand for BMW passenger cars and SAVS, as well as increasing consumer interest in BMW electrified vehicles.
The BMW 5 Series enjoyed tremendously strong sales growth, continuing a streak of seven straight months of sales gains, as 2,456 vehicles were delivered to U.S. customers for an impressive 227.9 percent boost. Of the month's total sales for the 5 Series, almost 10 percent were for the BMW 530e iPerformance plug-in hybrid electric model.
The BMW X4 SAV saw sales grow 83.4 percent for the month, while the X6 SAV improved on last January's numbers by 24.7 percent.
In a sign of U.S. customers' growing acceptance of developing technologies, BMW electrified vehicles accounted for more than 5 percent of vehicles sold in the United States during January.
Bernhard Kuhnt, President and CEO, BMW of North America, commented in a press release, "Our newest products continue to be very well received by consumers, which has helped us carry the momentum that we created in 2017 into 2018 and given us a great start to the New Year. We have many new products to launch in 2018, starting with the first-ever, and much anticipated BMW X2 which will begin appearing on showroom floors later this month for its sales debut in early March."
