Pre-Production BMW X7 Models Are Being Manufactured in South Carolina

January 19th, 2018 by

BMW Group announced in mid-December that pre-production models of the new BMW X7 Sports Activity Vehicle are rolling off the line of the company's Spartanburg, South Carolina facility. This begins the rigorous process — which includes a series of endurance tests and test drives performed in extreme conditions — that ends with the production X7 SAV's debut at the end of 2018.

In order to maximize future series production and efficiency, BMW uses the same assembly line to build the pre-production BMW X7 as it does for the already existing BMW X5 and BMW X6 production models. There is, however, a team of trained specialists that finish the work on the pre-production model, down to putting a camouflage wrap on the models before they leave the plant. The wrap's conspicuously striped patterns are designed to help obscure the SAV's final design.

Knudt Flor, head of the BMW Group Spartanburg plant, was quoted in a press release as saying, "We are proud to produce the BMW X7 here in Spartanburg, the home of our X models. This is a very special vehicle and our employees are looking forward to yet a further member of the X family. Together with the BMW X7, a total of five BMW X models will be exported from Spartanburg to all four corners of the globe."

At BMW of Tulsa, we take pride in serving our friends and neighbors from the Muskogee, Broken Arrow and Owasso, OK areas.
